DESCRIPTION:Have coffee with the VFW's National Commander-in-Chief\, William "Bill" Thien when he visits the Fergus Falls Post 612 on Wednesday\, May 28th from 9:00-10:00am.\n\n\n\nWilliam A. "Bill" Thien was elected Commander-in-Chief of the \n\nVeterans of Foreign Wars on July 24\, 2013\, at the VFW's 114th \n\nNational Convention\, held in Louisville\, Ky. \n\n \n\nMr. Thien served in the U.S. Navy from 1969-1974 and served five \n\nyears in the Indiana National Guard. His decorations include the \n\nVietnam Service Medal with 3 stars\, Vietnam Campaign Medal with \n\n1960 Bar\, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea)\, National \n\nDefense Service Medal and several from the National Guard. \n\n \n\nHe joined the VFW in 1971 at Post 3281 in New Albany\, Ind.\, where \n\nhe maintains his Gold Legacy Life Membership. He has served the \n\nVFW in many leadership positions including All American Post \n\nCommander\, All State District Commander and All American State Commander. He has also \n\nheld positions on numerous National committees\, including Vice Chairman of Citizenship \n\nEducation and Community Service and as Chairman of National Scholarship and Recognition. \n\n \n\nMr. Thien attended Indiana University Southeast. He worked as a Team Leader/Shift Supervisor \n\nat Duke Energy and is now retired. \n\n \n\nMr. Thien is a member of the American Legion\, DAV\, Veterans of Vietnam War Inc.\, National \n\nRifle Association\, Patriot Guard Riders\, Military Order of the Cootie Pup Tent 51 and VFW \n\nNational Home. \n\n \n\nHe and his wife Linda reside in Georgetown\, Ind.
