SUMMARY:Open Studio with Hinge Arts resident Alo Osberg
DESCRIPTION:Join Homecoming Artist\, Alo Osberg during their open studio as they experiment with an imagined folk futurism!\n\n\n\nWhat would you do if traditional craft materials could no longer be harvested from the wild? Come learn from guest artisans\, elders\, and our artist in resident how to convert waste and invasive species into translations of traditional basketry\, fiber arts and woodcraft. Share in curiosity and conversation as we imagine the futurescape of folk craft.\n\n\n\nLocation:\n\nStudio K\, at the Kaddatz Galleries\, 111 West Lincoln Ave.\, Fergus Falls\, MN.\n\n\n\nDates and Time: \n\nJan. 15th\, 5-7pm\n\nJan. 18th\, 1-3pm\n\nJan. 22nd\, 5-7pm\n\nJan. 25th\, 1-3pm\n\n\n\nThis event is FREE and open to the public to attend!\n\n\n\nAbout the Artist:\n\nAlo Osberg (they/them) is an interdisciplinary artist and fabricator who uses performance\, participatory and conceptual art to facilitate question asking and wonder making. They are committed to the promotion of art and cultural heritage as a means of community building\, life-long learning\, and social and environmental healing. Blurring the lines of artisan craft and fine arts\, they are exploring the possibilities of a folk futurism that marries ancestral knowledge with modern synthetic materials and waste. Descending from five generations of women who settled and worked in Dakota and Anishinaabe territory (now called West Central Minnesota)\, Alo grew up visiting family every summer in Fergus Falls and Pelican Rapids searching for the elusive otters and pelicans depicted in concrete sculptures and road-signs. Now based out of Minneapolis\, they have worked with museums\, theatres\, schools and festivals nationally and internationally to produce interactive exhibits\, sculptures\, experimental puppetry and workshops.
