SUMMARY:Urban Printmaking
DESCRIPTION:(Fergus Fall MN.) Spring Board for the Arts along with printmaker Michael Weatherly and the Kaddatz Gallery will be running a free public arts event on May 5th 2018 from 10am -12pm. Urban printmaking\, sponsored by Spring Board for the Arts\, is a public printmaking project led by printmaker Michael Weatherly (http://mweatherly56235.wixsite.com/michael-weatherly) from Elbow Lake Minnesota. Participants will roll non-toxic ink onto a manhole cover or other textured public surface\, paper or cloth will be laid on the cover and the participant will apply pressure to obtain an image. This event will present an opportunity for participants to learn an interesting technique in printmaking usually not practiced. The goal of the program is to promote printmaking and run in conjunction with the International Print Day in May (https://printdayinmay.com). Print Day in May\, held annually on the first Saturday in May\, celebrates the art and community of printmakers. It's a day to get together in studios across the world to make prints. Each year participation grows\; we have had people from Australia\, Argentina\, France\, Mexico\, and of course\, the United States of America. Printmakers have opened their studios to friends\, used their cars as presses\, made prints on the beach all to spread the joy of printmaking. Print Day in May began in 2007 at the Monterey Peninsula College (MPC)\, Monterey\, CA. The MPC Fine Art Print Club created it to encourage printmakers everywhere to create prints on the same day. Join us at the Kaddatz Gallery\, 111 W Lincoln\, Fergus Falls on May 5th at 10am. Supplies provided\, a limited number of t-shirts will be provided\, participants are welcome to bring their own. This activity is part of the Fergus Falls Year of Play\, a partnership between the Department of Public Perks\, Springboard for the Arts\, and PartnerSHIP 4 Health with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
