Quilt Raffle Fundraiser for The Welcome House in Fergus Falls, MN

More than just a quilt!  The quilt up for raffle was skillfully handcrafted by Rita Zuehlsdorff of Fergus Falls, and has a story behind it.  Rita shared:  "Quilts are pieces of fabric, gathered and sewn with love.  Sometimes collected from gatherings with friends who want to share their stash or collections. I was blessed to be asked by former Director Becky Weers and our daughter Jessica Zuehlsdorff to design and put together this quilt.  It started with a box of hand turned, hand stitched flower petals with yellow centers, donated to The Welcome House.  Without much hesitation, I accepted, always wanting to do something for them as a fundraiser.  The Welcome House has been a blessing for Jess.  Petals and centers were appliqued by machine.  The centers were embroidered with a fringe design.  Machine embroidered flower blocks, which I had already started, were then framed with yellow and alternated in rows.  For the likeness of the 30's floral fabrics, small print borders with yellow, seemed to frame and complete the design of the quilt.  Upon a road trip to Randalls Old Creamery Quilt Shop, I spotted some batik for the backing.  With only 4 1/2 yards, I decided to buy what they had and look for more.  Part of being a quilter for me is the hunt to find desirable fabric.  Little did I know, I had a fabric I thought coordinated in my stash, collected from one of my trips I took related to quilting.  Binding was made from the backing batik fabric.  The quilt was quilted by Casandra at Quilters Cottage in Fergus Falls with 10% of the longarm quilting donated.  

Raffle tickets are $5.00 each or 5 for $20.00 and can be purchased at the check out counter at The Welcome House, 1678 College Way, Fergus Falls.  The raffle drawing for the quilt will take place on Friday, May 14th at 4pm.  Best of luck to everyone!
