Bike MS: TRAM Ride Arrives in Fergus Falls Thursday, July 26 – Together We Are the MS Movement
TRAM (The Ride Across Minnesota) is a fully supported, week-long ride which raises funds for multiple sclerosis (MS) and covers approximately 250 miles through northwestern Minnesota and the Central Lakes region. This year's TRAM route will take cyclists on a journey through Bemidji, Walker, Park Rapids, and Wadena arriving at Adams Park (Grotto Lake) in Fergus Falls on Thursday, July 26. Friday morning, they’ll ride to Alexandria on the Central Lakes Trail. Riders will endure the July heat, push themselves up hills, laugh out loud, meet great people -- they might even pretend that it wasn’t a big deal, but it is.
Every hour in the United States, someone is newly diagnosed with MS, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that interrupts the flow of information within the brain and between the brain and the body. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with more than twice as many women as men living with the disease. MS affects 17,000 people in the Upper Midwest Chapter area, 400,000 in the United States and 2.1 million worldwide.
This is the 3rd time in five years that Fergus Falls has been selected as a TRAM host city, due in no small part to our award-winning hospitality (winner of a Sylvie Award from the MS Society for our Group Volunteer All Stars in 2007). We invite you to “Join the Movement” and help make Fergus Falls a favorite again in 2012. Let’s make sure the riders experience small town hospitality, beautiful campsites, Midwest cookin', homegrown entertainment – and Fergus Falls friendliness -- some of the things that have made this tour the "Ultimate Minnesota Road Trip" for more than 20 years.
