Economic Development Coordinator (EDC)
The Economic Development Coordinator (EDC) directs and manages economic development projects, economic-development-related events, operation of The Foundry, and media/ public relations on behalf of Greater Fergus Falls. The coordinator also provides inter-agency administration and coordination by and between Greater Fergus Falls and the City of Fergus Falls.
The EDC will regularly interact with local and state government officials, local business executives, and community members. This person must possess effective critical thinking skills, customer service skills, and tact. Personal integrity and the ability to maintain confidentiality are required.
RESPONSIBILITIES.
Customer Service.
Live the mission, vision, and values of Greater Fergus Falls to ensure a positive experience for all stakeholders. Customer service is a core component of the position and work responsibilities:
• Serve as a frontline for economic development opportunities and concerns. Review and respond to a wide range of inquiries independently.
• In partnership with the Chamber of Commerce but with particular attention paid to businesses unaffiliated with the Chamber, maintain an open line of communication with the business community.
• Manage the organization-wide calendar (both forward-facing and internal).
• Coordinate necessary arrangements for meetings, workshops, events, etc at The Foundry.
• Maintain coworking space.
• Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the Greater Fergus Falls office and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable economic development partner.
Write, design, and manage communication for Greater Fergus Falls.
• Using Canva and other tools, create high-quality communication materials, including graphs, charts, and reports, for the Greater Fergus Falls board.
• Develop content for social media and other avenues of public relations to maintain visibility and enhance community engagement.
• Handle inquiries and correspondence in a clear, professional manner.
Provide executive assistance to the Greater Fergus Falls Board.
• Oversee operations of the Greater Fergus Falls Board. Maintain the meeting schedule and perform administrative tasks, including preparation of minutes, agendas, and financial reports.
• Manage the Greater Fergus Falls budget; assist with development of budget information for decision-making and budget planning as assigned.
• Coordinate payment of invoices.
• Reconcile monthly statements and provide a monthly financial report to Board.
• Maintain reservation lists for events hosted by Greater Fergus Falls. Coordinate room reservations and catering arrangements when appropriate.
• Serve on committees and project teams representing Greater Fergus Falls as assigned.
Liaise with the City of Fergus Falls Community Development Department: assist in administering business development programming; serve as a first stop in the development process for new or expanding businesses.
• Develop and maintain knowledge of City of Fergus Falls business development subsidies/ incentives (loan programs, TIF, abatement, etc).
• Develop and maintain a basic knowledge of City zoning requirements to assist with site selection.
• Maintain LOIS database.
• Monitor and respond to DEED RFPs via Lasso.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Associate’s degree with at least three (3) years of experience providing counsel and guidance to a board or executives, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated ability to resolve complex issues and manage competing priorities.
• Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently across diverse constituent groups, including stakeholders, legislators, and business leaders.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including public relations and social media proficiency.
• Design skills and experience (brochures, documents, presentations, etc.)
• Knowledge of budget principles sufficient to manage budgets.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Demonstrated experience in grant writing and grant seeking, including identifying funding opportunities and managing application and reporting processes.
• Familiarity with loan processes and financial analysis.
