Community Open Mic w/Hinge Artists!
We love to support the local arts here at Union, and as part of the Hinge Artist program though Springboard for the Arts, we are thrilled to be hosting a community "open-mic" night here at the U! Monday, December 21st, will be a chance for you to come and express your poems, stories, comedy, lyrics, etc., with our community. Come and share! Our two local "artists-in-residence" wil be hosting this event with their poetry and visual arts - bios found below. Do you have a story to tell? A poem to recite? A song to sing? Do it here!
Caitlin Scarano is a poet in the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee PhD creative writing program. She was a finalist for the 2014 Best of the Net Anthology and the winner of the 2015 I...ndiana Review Poetry Prize, judged by Eduardo Corral. She has two poetry chapbooks: The White Dog Year (dancing girl press, 2015) and The Salt and Shadow Coiled (Zoo Cake Press, 2015).
Maria Stabio is a first generation Filipino-American artist and curator. Her current work addresses feelings of loneliness and isolation through the use of comedic text combined with the painted image. She graduated with a BFA in Painting from Boston University and an MFA in Visual Arts from Columbia University. In 2012, she was a recipient of the Artist in Residence Fellowship at Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar, serving as artist in residence and adjunct faculty for one academic year in Doha, Qatar. She is a co-founder of Trackside Studios and Torrance Shipman Gallery in Brooklyn, New York. She currently lives and works in New York. For more information, visit mariastabio.com.
