Bigwood Lecture - Deadliest Enemy, Our War Against Killer Germs presented by Dr. Michael Osterholm
Public health scientist Dr. Michael Osterholm, author of “Deadliest Enemy: Our War Against Killer Germs,” will address the global dangers posed by infectious diseases when he appears as the keynote speaker for the 26th annual Bigwood Lecture on the Fergus Falls campus of Minnesota Community and Technical College.
The doors open for Osterholm’s presentation at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5, and the lecture begins at 7 p.m. His presentation is free and open to the public.
Osterholm is world-renowned as an infectious disease expert and currently is the Regents Professor and Director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota. He has served at the national level as a special advisor on issues related to bioterrorism and public health preparedness, and for 15 years he was Minnesota’s state epidemiologist.
Osterholm warns in “Deadliest Enemy” that infectious diseases have the power to disrupt everyday life on a global scale, overwhelm public and private resources, and bring trade and transportation to a halt. In his “crisis agenda,” he lays out a realistic response that addresses these challenges.
