Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) Grant Awarded
This October, the Foundation for Rural Service awarded a $5,000 grant to the Ashby School Agricultural Education Department. As the sponsor of this application, Park Region contributed 20% of the total grant amount, the funds of which will go toward aiding the school’s greenhouse project.
The Ashby FFA will use the FRS grant to construct a 25’x50’ greenhouse on the Ashby Public School campus to provide a year-round supply of nutrient dense fresh produce to the local food shelves and the Ashby school lunch program. The Grant County food shelves in Hoffman and Elbow Lake support 1,050 families and feed approximately 2,200 people. Clients who rely on support from the local food shelves will be able to receive a much higher quality of produce than previously provided.
The school says this initiative not only provides crucial support to our local community, but it also provides
an indispensable experience for the students involved. Please join us in congratulating the Ashby FFA and
their efforts to contribute to and improve our amazing community!
